Bruce G. Habian, a senior partner and trial attorney, has represented the Firm’s core clients in professional liability defense litigation for more than 40 years. Recognized by the Judiciary and opposing counsel as one of the premiere defense attorneys in complex medical cases, Mr. Habian has specialized in the defense of severe infant neurological injuries, with their attendant high financial exposure and risk, spinal pathology and cancer medicine cases. He has successfully established complex innovative medical defenses at trial based upon sophisticated pathology and neuroradiology evidence. Mr. Habian’s broad experience extends to representation of law firms in litigation with underlying issues concerning personal injury, bankruptcy, commercial litigation and domestic relations.
Mr. Habian’s case management is complemented by his writings, having authored book chapters on spinal surgery and neuropathology for leading medical publications. He has written and lectured extensively on the subject of cancer litigation and neurologically injured infant lawsuits. He has been published by Matthew Bender Corp and the New York State Bar Association. Mr. Habian has been a panelist for New York Law Journal Seminars Press, the American Conference Institute, and at major New York City teaching hospitals’ departmental programs. He is peer listed in the “Best Lawyers in America®”, was recognized as Lawyer of the Year in 2009 in his practice specialty, and has been honored yearly in New York Magazine’s listing of leading attorneys. He is AV® rated by Martindale-Hubbell® which is their highest rating.
Mr. Habian received his J.D. from Villanova University in 1972 and his B.A. from Boston College in 1969. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the Defense Research Institute, the International Association of Defense Counsel and has served as a faculty member of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Habian is admitted to practice before New York and New Jersey State Courts, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Habian is a Fellow of the prestigious peer selected American College of Trial Lawyers, and has served on its New York Downstate Committee.
